THE UPCOMING HOLIDAYS

First things first

So Halloween just passed.  Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and Christmas soon to follow.  I honestly call this the ‘crazy’ time of the year.  Everything just seems so hectic, so forced, so stressful, and oh so much sugar.  It should not feel this way to celebrate these wonderful times of the year with loved ones.  We all need to slow down a little.  Take the time to BE with one another and don’t let the overwhelm of the season take us down.

Traditions

Now I love certain traditions when it comes to the holidays.  For example, at Christmas time, as a kid, I always opened my presents on Christmas Eve and Christmas was reserved for going to Church and family time all day long.  I really enjoyed those times and still do.  I kept this tradition but changed it up a little.  I let my kids open a present on Christmas Eve and the rest on Christmas morning.  They love this.

Meaning

One aspect of Christmas that I feel like it’s fading is the meaning of it.  It just seems like it is all about shopping and who gets the most expensive gift or the number of gifts.  It almost seems like a competition.  It is very sad to me because it should not be this way.  As parents, we want all the things for our kids.  I’m right there with you.  I want them to have things I didn’t.  But it does not mean that they need a thousand gifts each year.  I must admit, I failed off the wagon on this one but I’m getting back on.  I remind my kids each year why we celebrate Christmas.  I teach them about it in hopes that they realize it’s more than just presents.

The Food

Okay, so it wouldn’t be my post if I didn’t at least mention food right? Haha.  But on a serious note, the holidays always bring on lots of sugar.  No wonder they call this the ‘sick’ season.  Ultimately, so much sugar will lower the immune system by a lot.  The exposure to germs indoors around this time just welcomes sicknesses.  This is not to say you can’t enjoy some of the ‘bad’ things for you.  This is the time to eat a lot of fruits, veggies, and ferments.  They build your immunity so that even if you get sick, you’ll be able to get over it much faster.

Hope you enjoy these upcoming Holidays with your families.  Lots of love, health, and good food.

Stay healthy and warm my friend.
